Economic policy of the sultans of Delhi
- Delhi Konark Publishers 1991
- 152 p.
Dealing with the economic policies of the Delhi Sultans between 1206 and 1388, the book seeks to repair a vital omission in the history of this period. Unlike the perfunctory treatment of the economic conditions in the books available on the Delhi Sultanate, the author has adopted an analytical approach to highlight the economic changes as part of the general dyna mics of continuity.
The book also critically examines the measures the sultans had promul gated to ensure a functional economic administration. A related issue taken up for consideration is the extent to which state policy could influence economic prosperity and decline. Based entirely on primary source material consisting of historical accounts, contemporary works on administration and polity, letters and records of conversations, the book successfully pieces together bits of information and views and forges a coherent picture of Sultanate economy.
