Secularism and indian polity / edited by Bidyut Chakrabarty

The book is an attempt to understand the complex interplay of factors contributing to the decline of secular forces and consequently the triumph of communalism. Divided into five parts, the book drawing on the expertise of social scientists work- ing in various fields, seeks to explain the secular process in its complexity. As India is a multicultural, multi-religious and multi-lingual nation, it is difficult and probably illogical to attempt a mono causal explanation. Accordingly, the contributors of this volume have sought to explain by reference to the factors likely to have shaped India's secularism.
