As maps are to a geographical or political landscape, a review is to a book: it is an approximation of the real – it provides the outline and the contours, and is an invitation to explore. A review is not a synopsis or a precis – though it does contain elements of what is there in the book. Book reviews also provide a context, and often provide an idea about other, or similar books in that genre.
The book in your hands is a selection from my reviews that have appeared in print over the last few years. I have enjoyed reading each of these books, and the review is my subjective assessment of how the author has approached his/her subject. I hope that you will enjoy the reviews, and order some, if not all of these books for your bookshelf, for as they say, let knowledge grow from more to more, and thus be human life enriched.
