The district Nilgiri includes, besides the great plateau, three widely different outlying tracts; namely a strip of malarias jungle skirting the northern foot of the plateau; the Ouchterlong Valley on the west, a deep recess in the high walls of the plateau; and, still further west, the country known as the south-east Wynaad, a table-land of bamboo forest. The description of rivers and waterfalls; minerals-mica iron and gold; geological, botanical are the highlight of the book. Besides, it speaks highly of the people, agriculture occupation and trade; means of communication, public health, education, education, administration of justice and the local self-government of the district.</subfield>
