In the nick of time saving Kashmir valley 1947-48 - Ladakh Laya Publications 2020 - 318

Christopher Snedden, Victoria Schofield Lt. Gen. L. P. Sen wrote about a war that happened seven decades ago. And here comes a refresher that is crisp, riveting and has maps and sketches not found in any of the illustrated works on the war of 1947-48. And interestingly, the work sets many records and assumptions straight.
The situation in Kashmir Valley on 27 October 1947 had got out of hand and the administration had collapsed. The raiders, numbering in thousands, had reached Baramulla in the morning and but for a rag-tag force of handful remnants of State forces, nothing stood between the fanatics and the helpless population of Kashmir. By then, much of Western Kashmir had already been plundered. And it was the day of Eid! And suddenly, as if as a response to the prayers of the locals, angels started to touch down at the airfield just outside the city of Srinagar.
