This study is about the problems small industrialized countries face in confronting the rapid changes in technology which are now transforming the world economy.
It presents an analytical framework, a survey of the literature and a series of empirical contributions on industrial development and policy. With a range of contributors from countries as diverse as Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Hungary, Israel, the Netherlands and United Kingdom, the authors assess how small countries can adapt their systems of innovation, production and trade to avoid the dangers and take full advantage of the micro-electronic revolution and other new technologies.
In a contribution from Venezuela the problems of small industrialized countries are related to those of developing countries trying to "catch up" with world technology.
