Great upheaval 1969-1972 C.2 - New Delhi Orientalia 1972 - 606p.

The book is an attempt at tracing the origin, the spread and the aftermath of a great upheaval which engulfed the Congress Party in the later half of Hl69 and encompassed all facets of Indian life-political, economic, cultural and ideological. It portrays a ornprehemive picture of events relative to this great upheaval from its very first stages to the 1972 General Elections which signified the virtual extinction of an outmoded leadership after a bitter two-and-a-half-year old fight for survival.
The story of the great upheaval hardly needs any particular emphasis here: it can be readily followed through the comprehensive coverage of documents and chronology dealing with every detail of this historic event. Moreover, it should be the privilege of historians and political scientists to put the whole inspiring story in proper perspective. What seems to be essential for an understanding of the orientation of documents is an objective review of the developments preceding and following the great upheaval which has thrown new challenges to the national leadership.
