Editorial Research Reports was founded in 1923 as a reference service for newspaper editors. Congressional Quarterly Inc. has published Editorial Research Reports since 1956. The ten Reports that appear in this book were originally published as separate Editorial Research Reports and mailed to subscribers on the dates imprinted on the first page of each Report. The subject matter of Editorial Research Reports in cludes cultural affairs, education, economics, national defense, health, science, foreign affairs, religion, crime control, agricul ture, medicine, business, labor...when the particular topic is attracting wide public attention. Editorial Research Reports are sold to libraries and educational institutions by annual subscription. Subscriptions consist of four Reports a month, mailed on the date published, and semi-annual bound volumes. The bound volumes contain, in addition to the Reports, updating material and comprehensive indexing.
