It is at critical history of India's experiment in democracy upto 1962. The publication could not have been expediated. Various important events were taking place following the monstrous aggression of the People's Republic of China on India. The book would have been incomplete had those events were left out. In India itself the political and economic situation underwent serious changes after the aggression and India. began to think in another way.
The second shock that India received was of the passing away of Shri Jawaharlal Nehru, on the 27 of May 1964. It was a terrible calamity. He was the architect of India's democracy and was the soul of India's hopes and aspirations. India has not survived that shock yet. His successor Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri is an able leader and has assured the country that he would faithfully adhere to the principles and policies laid down by the departed leader. He and his colleagues are doing so. Yet we will miss the personality of Shri Nehru on every occasion and will feel for it. Let us give the same loyalty and the same strength to Shri Shastri as we tried to give to Shri Jawaharlal. With faith and determination let us strive to reach our goal-the goal of democratic socialism.
