"Bahadur, Kalim ...( et al) (.ed)"

Inside Afghanistan / edited by Kalim Bahadur ...[et al] - New Delhi Patriot 1985 - 147p.

This is perhaps the first book in which the Indian scholars have made an in depth study of changes that have taken place in three vital areas of Afghanistan its political structure, direction of its social and economic policies and cultural revivalism against heavy odds of counter-revolution and foreign interference.

The book examines how the Afghan leader has been trying to bring about a synthesis between the traditional norms of structures at varied levels and the modern tasks of a nation-building state. Another striking feature is its analysis showing how in a tribal feudal ridden society with multi plicity of languages and different ethnic and nationality groups political norms have been evolved through revival of the Jirgah sys tem to bring them emotionally closer to each other as well as to harness their talents for the regen eration of their society.

The book also extensively deals with America's expansion ist designs towards the South Asian region since the mid 1970s. The concluding part examines the future prospects of the Afghan problem in the light of the Geneva summit held in November 1985.
