<br/><br/> The book is on group conflict and accommoda-<br/>tion. The formation of linguistic states coupled<br/>with the democratization of political institution<br/>have politicized the ethnicity and created a<br/>conflict-situation between the linguistic majority<br/>and minority groups.<br/>Different states haveattempted to resolve such conflicts in different <br/>ways.<br/>Three states of Eastern India, West Bengal,<br/>Assam and Tripura, have been selected for<br/>case studies. West Bengal provides a typical<br/>example of pluralistic pattern, Assam evinces<br/>a forcible assimilative pattern and Tripura a<br/>irustration-aggression pattern.<br/>The causes<br/>the different patterns of relationship in<br/>diferent states have been studied in the back-<br/>ground of their respective historical, economic<br/>and demographic situations. In the concluding<br/>chapter the author suggests ways and means<br/>to resolve these conflicts in the mosaic of<br/>state life.
