<br/><br/> Despite diverse political interests an association of South Asian nations seemed inevitable at some point in time. Since the idea was mooted in 1980 the member nations have moved in measured pace culminating in the present summit meeting.<br/><br/>So far SARC collaboration remained restricted to such subjects as, agriculture, health and population, communication, sports and culture. Cooperation proposed in the technical committees so far can be made effective only under bold political direction from the leaders of the member nations.
