Instability in Indian agriculture in the context of the new technology - Washington International Food Policy Research Institute. 1981 - 55 : ill.

Tremendous efforts have been made in India since Independence to raise the level of agricultural production, especially of foodgrains .Because the possibilities of increasing production by expanding cultivated area are largely exhausted, greater reliance has had to be placed on increasing yield as a source of growth.
New seed-fertilizer technology has been an important vehicle for increasing yield, but at the same time yield variability seems to have increased. Perhaps a look at the past can throw light on the well known instability of Indian agriculture.
