The book is a compilation such writings of one of the greatest Muslims of India, Syed Ameer Ali (1849-1928). He was versatile, both in speech and writing: he was an eminent lawyer, judge and jurist; a practical leader; a prolific writer and above all, a well known historian gifted with critical acumen and in analytical approach.

The book is in two volumes; the first contains his memoirs, articles and letters to The Times, mostly on the socio-political problems of contemporary India and the second compiles his writings on Islam, Islamic history and culture.
