Hedaya : Commentry on the Islamic Laws / Translated by Charles Hamilton V.2
- New Delhi Kitab Bhavan 1985
- V.2
The Hedaya or Guide is a commentary on the Islamic laws. Translation by Charles Hamilton first made in the 1780s (dedicated 'to Warren Hastings, Esq., late Governor-General of Bengal').
This translation By Charles Hamilton was commissioned by Warren Hastings, British Governor-General of Bengal and the second Edition in 1870. Undoubtedly the translation is lacking in many ways with its archaic language and the fact that it is primarily addressed at the British Colonial Rulers of India at the time. This Edition is the third reprint by Kitab Bhavan (India) 2014.
Nevertheless, the Importance of this Book can not be exaggerated, it was and still is referred to in all Courts in Muslim India. It is also studied in most Hanafi based Dar-ul-Ulums and Islamic Universities.
