Electricity remains the most crucial of the infrastructure sectors. It is the basic input for any economic activity. The growth of the economy thus hinges on the growth of the power sector. The Government of India realized that drastic reforms were required in the power sector to meet the rising demands of energy in the fast growing economy of the country.
