Social science research in India is, in many ways, still in its infancy but it has begun to grow in the last twenty years. There is increasing concern for research, systematic effort for understanding the reality of our society and social institutions. Scientists themselves, and the users of scientific data are now alive to the fact that data derived from systematic research has a vital role to play in building a new society in India. The important thing about research is that, not only money and men, but many supporting services and sources must become available to a researcher. He has to spend many laborious hours scanning the literature and obtain such primary data as is needed for setting up his field work. These are time-consuming tasks yet essential for the researcher's design. It is in this aspect of research that a bibliography becomes an invaluable source of help to a researcher.
