The intention of this series of monographs is to present intensive, close-up studies of individual societies and cultures as well as theoretical studies addressed to the problems of history and social sciences. Founded in honour of Nels Anderson, a pioneer in urban sociology, it reflects a belief in the possibility of a genuinely universal science of man, that cuts across narrow cultural and geographical boundaries.
The series, based on the belief that empirical and theoretical studies should
be in a state of dynamic and constant interaction, is offered as a contribution
to man's awareness of himself as a social and cultural being.
