Since independence India's Indus trial growth has been set apace with a desired objective. Different policies and methods have been evolved to realise this aim. Various aspects of industrialisation such as effects on the economy, industrial relations, labour problems, have been analysed and dis cussed in their broad perspective. But few have made attempts to examine specific patterns of industrial relations. Such a study is very important to know. the results of the policies and their applications in specific context.
Here, in this book, studies in indus trial relations in six individual indus trial establishments in the city of Bombay have been made, covering all major aspects. The topics dealt with are Company operations, Organisation and Management, Personnel. Service and Welfare conditions, Trade Union and Industrial Relations. This inter sive study provides a firm basis o which the present policies and methods I can be evaluated, and perhaps may help to introduce necessary changes. This research project was carried out by the Department of Industrial Rela tions of the Gujarat Research Society and was sponsored by the Research Programmes Committee of the Plan ning Commission.
