This book is an attempt to describe the evolution of the concept of Extension in India and the role it has been playing in the implementation of Community Development Programme. In writing this book, the specific requirements of field workers in Community Development, representatives of people serving in Panchayati Raj bodies, and administrators have been kept in view. The material has been drawn largely from the field experience of the author during the last twelve years in Community Development. The presentation in this book has been designed to be of particular use to the large number of students preparing for work in the field of extension.
