In this work, author have not only incorporated the views of masters of Political Theory but also indicated various new trends. now current, not excluding references to Marxist thinking. As will be evident from the footnotes in the book, we have drawn heavily on the eminent scholars, past and present. To all of them, we acknowledge our debt of gratitude. It is also possible that we may have unconsciously borrowed from others, whose thinking having become part of our own, the original sources remain forgotten. To them also, we tender our apologies in advance. We hope, however, that the reader will find in this book a coherent and consistent account. of the various aspects of Political Theory.
The Editor has contributed the first four chapters, chapter twentythree and sections of other chapters, the rest having been done by his distinguished colleagues in the field, Dr. Vidya Bhushan and Shri Vishnoo Bhagwan. The Editor is grateful to his co-Authors for giving him a free hand in vetting their portions in any manner he considered necessary in order to ensure a certain unity of thought and expression, proper co-ordination and proportion as well as a perspective from which various issues have been examined. For these, as well as for the present arrangement of topics, the Editor alone bears responsibility.
