Summary: This book is the outcome of a seminar on "Seventh Five Year Plan: Performance and Perspectives" organised by the Department of Economics, Osmania University, under the Special Assistance Programme of the University Grants Com mission. The Seventh Plan, which covers the period 1985-90, seeks to stabilise the growth of the economy at an average annual rate of five per cent which was achieved during the 1975-85 decade. The Plan coincides with the new economic policy of the Government which lays greater emphasis on the private sector. The 16 papers included in this volume present an overview of the performance of the Indian economy, plan methodology and issues in planning, industrial and energy sectors, including small scale and rural industries, evaluation of industrial policy, poverty and unemployment, financial resources and balance of payments. The book should prove to be of immense help to post graduate students of economics and business management, scholars at research institutes, universities and colleges and to administrators and policy makers.
