This scholarly study of China's wartime and postwar inflation should be of great interest to economists, economic historians, and specialists on modern China. The purpose of the book is to analyze the process of the Chinese inflation with special emphasis on its economic and social effects. It also presents information on that part of China's recent economic history which is relevant to the inflation. The analysis of the inflationary process involves the application of modern theories of inflation to the Chinese experience. Economists interested in the phenomenon may now, because of Professor Chou's work, add the Chinese experience to the list of classic cases which have been analyzed under rigorous and critical methodology
