IN 1947, Asian Relations Conference was held in Delhi. This Conference was unique because it was the first people to people conference in Asia, and it was conceived and inspired by an extraordinary statesman of vision and idealism- Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru. For Pt. Nehru, the Asian Relations Conference was the beginning of the fulfilment of his Asian dream, namely that of reviving the independent identity of Asia and building up Asia into a continent of freedom and peace and harmony, radiating these to other parts of the world. Nehruji wanted Asia to assert its independent identity not in conflict but in harmony and in cooperation with others on the basis of equality. He wanted Asia to keep out of military alliances and power game and to play a effective role in the
evolution of new Asia after decades and centuries of colonial domination.
