Summary: There is mounting evidence that the national scene is advancing towards mobilising governmental and non governmental efforts for rural develop ment. The objectives of planned development as envisaged by the new government emphasize eradication of unemployment problems, accelerated growth of agricultural production and reduction of disparities in income especially of those below the proverty line. These objectives require that there should not only be rapid and integrated development but it should also be based on effective local level planning and implementation in the countrysibe. These guidelines, therefore, comprise totality of the programme in rural areas towards the desired socio-economic goals. The objective of this bibliography is to draw the attention of practitioners and researchers in the field to the vast literature covering various aspects of the subject, particularly, rural develop ment policies, planning, programmes, rural institutions, and village and area studies. Over 3,600 references con tained in this bibliography cover macro and micro literature including books, public documents, research reports, dissertations, and articles.
