This manual on Population Communication Management is one more evidence of the continuing efforts at AIBD to develop training material relevant to the needs and realities of the Asia-Pacific region that the Institute serves.
It is yet another example of collaboration among specialists working in various agencies/institutions in this region. The manual comprises the wealth of experience of many people the trainers, researchers, planners and managers. who, during the AIBD courses and activities, have contributed to the development of concepts and systems in the management of population communication programmes.
The initial drafts of this manual were prepared for use in the regional courses on the Management of Population Communication Programmes organized by the Institute over the last few years under the Project RAS/85/P18 funded by the United Nations Population Fund through Unesco. The use of these material in the courses convinced us of the need for putting it together with the aim of assisting the population communication managers in executing their tasks more effectively.
It is essentially the product of five trainers and a large number of trainees involved in this training programme. The trainers wrote the various chapters based on their experience and culled material from a large number of published and unpublished documents and the trainees provided the test ground for the initial drafts of this manual. Against this background, it would be difficult to thank the many individuals and organizations who have contributed directly or indirectly in the development of this manual.
