Summary: The present collection of papers is centered round a single theme planning. But the problems asso ciated with planning have been viewed from different angles using various quantitative techniques. The first paper is a critical review of the national economic planning models used or discussed in various forms in India and the status of the planning effort as a process. The second paper deals with how national plans may be brought into harmony with international market conditions in a reasonably precise way. The third paper is concerned with regional planning with special reference to Iranian economy. The regional planning aspect is further narrowed down in the fourth paper relating to the growth of metropolitan regions of India Bombay, Madras. Calcutta, Delhi and The fifth paper deals with problem of transport planning in Calcutta and demonstrates the use of multi variate analysis in a variety of situation.
