Summary, etc. Although the problem of economic development of underdeveloped area an age-old one, it has only recently received renewed and serious practical consideration. This complex subject has been approached from many angle yet no theoretical framework which has been devised is comprehensive enough for the many issues presented by world poverty.

Bearing this in mind, this book presents the material on two complementary levels: The general and the specific. Part I is a discussion of some of the key determinants of economic develop ment: natural resources, capital accumu lation, technology and entrepreneurship and sociocultural factors. Historical, descriptive, and analytic approaches are interwoven in investigating these determinants. Part II is a series of twelve case studies of concrete prob lems of development in twelve different countries; a broad geographic range and a wide variety of political and economic conditions are exemplified. Each study is written by an outstanding authority. Critical Comments:-"This collective effort is a first-rate contribution to the literature on the process of develop ment......The volume is useful to the administrator in its demonstration, not only theoretical but also empirical, in the twelve country case studies of the critical need for more and better trained individuals to perform economic and social planning functions and for mana gerial entrepreneurs more sensitive to the peculiar requirements of the social political milieu of their respective societies. Over-all, the book seems to dbe admirably suited for use as textbook in schools of public and busi ness administration."
