Summary, etc. | The agricultural development in India termed as 'GREEN REVOLUTION' has appeared to have changed the conditions of the agricultural labour. This study concludes contrary to the popular belief that improvement in the wage rates and yearly earnings, thereby affecting the standard of living in Physical terms (food con sumption, housing standard, education of children etc.) of the agricultural labour. The book analytically analyses the changes due to the green revolution in (a) Land size and holding pattern, Land relations etc. (b) employment pattern: Man-days employment in Agriculture as well as non-agricultural occupation, wages, nature of hiring and working conditions of the agricultural Labourers (c) Labour force parti cipation, sex ratio and labour participation, duration of work (d) education of Labour household children (e) indebtedness and deficit of agricultural labour household children (f) role of government strategies and programmes for the uplift of agricultural labourers-Land reforms and IRDP schemes etc.<br/><br/>According to author's analysis the happy illusion of economic development due to the green revolution in India removed rural poverty to some extent, definitely among the landless agricultural labourers, has not proved true.<br/><br/>This outstanding book will be of great use to scholars and students of economics, sociology, agriculture and policy planners. |
