Environmental technologies for sustainable development / edited by Upender Pandel and M.P. Poonia - Ghaziabad Prime 2004 - 304p.

The goal of reaching sustainable development, when human activities including industrial manufacturing and commercial services, exists in the harmony with the natural environmment including conservation of energy and resources is an increasingly important aspiration for all the nations of the world. Thousands of chemicals and materials have been brought into procedure every day resulting in many wastes that have been released along the production lines.

Since the Earth Summit at Rio-De-Janeiro in 1992, sustainable development and better. environmental friendly technologies have been highlighted in all major international forums. New technologies, regulations and policies have also emerged out for controlling the effects such as depletion of ozone layer, greenhouse effect, emission of particulate and toxic gases. Clean technologies can both boost our economies and protect our environment. They enable a "de-coupling" of environmental impacts from economic growth. Use of such technologies can create "win-win" situations, where economic benefits can be reaped without making the environment suffer as a result.

The objective of the present conference is to provide a common plateform for researchers, policy makers, manufacturers and end users to discuss about cleaner environmental technologies for sustainable development. It is hoped that by discussing, debating and sharing current trends of development will bring interaction among international experts with end results being effective technology transfer viz. a viz. effective implementation of these technologies by policy makers.

The present volume "Environmental Technologies for Sustainable Development" contains more than forty numbers of technical papers from all over the world. Waste management, recycling of solid and liquid wastes, pollution abatement technologies, environment friendly technologies and EIA are the major themes of this volume.
